In Vicenza, the first exhibition dedicated to the virtuosity of Francesco Bertos

With “The fall of the rebel angels. Francesco Bertos”, the Intesa Sanpaolo's Gallerie d'Italia - Vicenza celebrate one of the most singular and sought-after artists in the Serenissima in the first half of the 18th century.

The first exhibition dedicated to Francesco Bertos - curated by Monica De Vincenti and Fernando Mazzocca - brings together more than 40 works and bears witness to his extreme technical virtuosity: extraordinary groups with bizarre and complex allegorical subjects, executed in bronze and marble for the most important collectors of his time, so surprising that they merited the scrutiny of the Inquisition "seeming impossible that the human hand could reach so far".

The central work of the exhibition is masterpiece Caduta degli angeli ribelli (Fall of the rebel angels), a spectacular marble sculpture only recently attributed to the artist, belonging to the Intesa Sanpaolo collection and exhibited in a dedicated room conceived by lighting designer Pietro Palladino.

The Vicenza museum, celebrating its 25th anniversary, together with the museums of Milan, Turin and Naples, are part of the Gallerie d'Italia museum project.

Open to the public from 11 October 2024 to 9 February 2025.
